If you've just completed reading The Heart Code by Dr. Bradley Nelson, you might be feeling both inspired and curious. Inspired by the idea that heart-wall emotions might be affecting your life in unexpected ways. Curious about the next steps. How can you determine if you have a Heart-Wall? Is it possible to clear it? Do you need a Heart-Wall clearing? These are some of the most common questions people ask after discovering the work of Dr. Bradley Nelson.
While every person's experience is unique, understanding the purpose of the Heart-Wall can offer valuable insight into your emotional patterns, relationships, and healing journey.

What Is a Heart-Wall?
In The Heart Code, Dr. Bradley Nelson describes a Heart-Wall as an energetic barrier that the subconscious mind may create in response to emotional pain, heartbreak, grief, trauma, rejection, or other difficult life experiences. According to the Heart Code framework, this barrier is made up of trapped emotional energies that accumulate around the heart as a form of protection.
Its purpose is not to harm you - its purpose is to help you.
When we experience emotional pain, the subconscious mind is constantly looking for ways to keep us safe. A Heart-Wall can be understood as one of those protective mechanisms.
In many ways, that's something to honour. The Heart-Wall isn't a mistake.
It's often evidence of the incredible ways your mind and body have worked together to help you navigate life's challenges.
When protection outlives its purpose
The challenge is that protection can sometimes continue long after the original experience has passed. What once helped us cope with pain may eventually limit our ability to fully experience connection, vulnerability, joy, trust, and emotional freedom.
Not because anything is wrong.
Not because we're broken.
But because the subconscious may still be operating from an old blueprint of protection.
Many people who resonate with the concept of the Heart-Wall describe feeling as though something is keeping them slightly disconnected from the life they want to experience.
They may struggle to receive love. They may feel emotionally guarded without understanding why. Or they may simply sense that there is another layer of healing waiting to unfold.
Signs you may have a Heart-Wall
There is no checklist that can definitively tell you whether you have a Heart-Wall. Dr. Bradley Nelson states that around 93% of the population have a Heart-Wall, so chances are that if you are an adult, you may have one.
Within the Heart Code framework by Dr. Bradley Nelson, people often explore the possibility when they notice patterns such as:
Difficulty fully opening to love or intimacy
Feeling emotionally guarded or protected
Fear of vulnerability
Repeating relationship patterns
Difficulty trusting others
Feeling disconnected from your emotions
Struggling to receive support, opportunities, or abundance
Feeling like you've done a lot of personal growth but something still feels blocked.
Of course, these experiences can arise for many reasons. A Heart-Wall is simply one lens through which to explore them.
What happens during a Heart-Wall clearing session?
A Heart-Wall clearing session is a gentle process that works with the subconscious mind to identify and release trapped emotional energies that form a Heart-Wall.
Using techniques from the Emotion Code and Heart Code systems, I communicate with the subconscious to uncover the heart-wall emotions that are ready to be released. The process is guided by what your subconscious prioritises.
Nothing is forced. Nothing is rushed. Every person's experience is different. Some people notice immediate shifts, whereas others experience subtle changes over time. For many, the greatest change is not dramatic, it's a growing sense of openness. People may experience more ease in relationships, more connection to themselves and more capacity to receive life as it unfolds.
Do you need a Heart-Wall clearing?
Only you can answer that question. But if you found yourself deeply resonating with The Heart Code, there may be a reason. Perhaps something in the concept felt familiar. Perhaps it gave language to experiences you've struggled to explain. Or perhaps you've reached a point in your healing journey where you're ready to explore what protection your subconscious may still be holding onto.
A Heart-Wall clearing isn't about fixing yourself, it's not about forcing healing and it's certainly not about tearing down your defences. It's about gently exploring whether some of the protection that once served you is no longer needed in the same way.
A different way of looking at healing
One of the things I appreciate most about Heart-Wall work is the compassion at its core. It recognises that our protective patterns were created for a reason. Rather than judging them, we can begin to understand them. Rather than fighting against them, we can work with them. Healing doesn't always begin by asking, "What's wrong with me?" It begins by asking: "What has been trying to protect me?" That question alone can open the door to profound awareness.
